Andreas Almgren is Sweden's best distance runner of his generation and one of the fastest in Europe's history. After years of setbacks, he became European 10,000m champion and world half marathon champion in 2026, setting records in both races. He trains with COROS.

From 800m talent to distance champion
Almgren first made his name as an 800m runner, winning bronze at the 2014 World Junior Championships in a Swedish junior record. The years that followed brought injuries and setbacks before he moved up in distance and rebuilt his career. In 2023 he won 5000m silver at the European Games, and from 2025 he became a regular on the global podium.

2026: two titles, two records
- European Championships, Birmingham (15 August): Gold in the 10,000m in 27:23.44, a championship record that had stood since 1978. He won by more than 19 seconds.
- World Road Running Championships, Copenhagen (20 September): Gold in the half marathon in 58:06, a European record, ahead of Nicholas Kipkorir and Joshua Cheptegei.
Earlier in the year he also ran 26:45 for 10 km on the road in Valencia, a European record.
Training with COROS
Almgren trains with the COROS PACE 4 and the COROS Heart Rate Monitor, and follows his build-up in COROS Training Hub.
Ahead of Birmingham, his Base Fitness rose from 115 to 149, with weekly training loads around 1000 and very little variation from week to week. In the race itself, his COROS data shows how he won it: the first 5000m took 14:05.07 at an average heart rate of 165 bpm, and the second half 13:17.74 at 180 bpm, a clear negative split after a long surge from around seven kilometres.

"It's a result I can be proud of for a really long time."
